Well we made our first trip to the Emergency Room this Sunday evening. We were on a walk after dinner, trying to get bedtime to come sooner, when Henry face-planted on a little brick wall and busted his lip. It was bleeding really good but we took his shirt off him and used it to stop the bleeding. When we got a good look at it we were pretty certain he would need a stitch. We made a quick call to ask Dr. Hackett and a nurse in our ward and then went to the ER.

Henry slept through most of the waiting and I came prepared with a good library book for Hazel and we survived the 2.5 hours.

I guess they normally sedate kids to do stitches on the face but Baylor doesn't ave pediatric anesthesia so they offered to transfer us to another hospital or just hold him down. It was already 9:15 pm so we said just do it. Henry was a champ really. I think he'll recover just fine but were trying to avoid scars on his chin and cheek.

Last week I turned TWENTY-SEVEN!

So 27 things about me and my life right now to try and make up for the weeks of not blogging.

1. I'm running the Boston Marathon in less than a month.

2. Teaching Pilates once a week for now.

3. My calling is Visiting Teaching Coordinator.

4. Discovered that I do like bell peppers.

5. I'm very much in a minimal state of mind. I like less things around the apartment, less things being bought, and less things on my calendar.

6. Ready for a bigger apartment or to move so we can afford a house.

7. So grateful to have a car everyday again.

8. I want to wear lipstick more often.

9. Normally, I like cooking at home but lately I just don't want to make dinner.

10. I got a new ring for Valentines Day- two whole sizes smaller than my engagement ring.

11. Really want to buy a pair of black Swedish Hasbeens and a jade cake stand.

12. I've never actually baked a birthday cake.

13. I'm definitely tired of waking up at 5:30 to run before Brice needs to leave for work.

14. Should probably buy myself a new swimsuit.

15. Mostly reading a lot of children's book from the library, but I did read and really enjoy, Daring Greatly by Brene Brown.

16. I didn't touch my eyebrows for 16 weeks and got then them reshaped and waxed yesterday and it was so so worth it!

17. Took my first Pilates Reformer class last month and loved it.

18. Wishing I knew our plan for the end of summer. Our apartment lease will be up, and I don't want to resign it.

19. Probably not eating enough throughout the day.

20. I'm thinking of starting to count macros- I'm so close to seeing a full 6 pack but I don't think I'm eating quite enough protein.

21. Wish I was a blogger that got sent free stuff from my favorite stores and brands too!

22. Trying to say yes when I mean it and no when I want to.

23. Excited for our long weekend to Boston without kids! My parents are coming too!

24. Wish I could have a kneaders sandwich and chocolate covered cinnamon bears from the BYU bookstore.

25. Gave up m&ms (my biggest vice) on December 26th and have only had them once since then. #sweettooth

26. I'm so grateful Brice and I are married- and happy-and willing to work for it.

27. Excited for another year and maybe another city?!

We went to the Arboretum this week- I planned to stay for a couple of hours and get through several activities but we found ourselves in one little garden and we never moved on. The kids have played in here before but we usually move along after a few minutes and before things get too dirty (there's sand and water which is really just a messy combination, right!?)

Hazel and Henry both played in the sand for almost an hour and yes they were filthy but totally engaged in it.

Then Henry moved over to the water feature and my first thought was that I didn't bring a towel or other clothes so he shouldn't play. But then he ran through that water and his face lit up. I said whatever and watched him soak himself head to toe. He was alive and playing and loved all of it.

Sure we had to undress and ride home in only a diaper and sure we didn't move on to other fun parts of the Children's Garden but I was content just watching them both play. I realized I probably hurry ourselves through activities just a little too quickly. That was a great morning.

Blogging has taken a backseat lately. I want to be documenting the little things but keeping up with two kids is not joke.

Here's a quick update at life lately and cheers to this week of actually blogging.

1. Hazel's imagination these days is so fun to listen to. She's all about storytelling, play time, asking questions, and reasoning her will. She is starting to get really impatient with Henry and has started pushing him frequently. She sees many time-outs a day but is always quick to apologize after. She's been obsessed with humming songs and the library. We just stocked up craft supplies and play-doh, but I really wish I could get her in dance or some other activity.

2. Henry is trying so hard to talk, He knows exactly what he wants and will be sure to tell you, but not quite in an actual word. He's obsessed with animals but especially BIRDS. He loves cars, trucks, balls, pulling hair, being outside, putting shoes on, and eating. Henry eats us out of house and home, but he's still wearing 6-12 month clothes at 17 months old. After we put Hazel to bed, Henry has 10-15 minutes with just mom and dad and he just loves it. you can see it all over his face.

3. Brice is running and working and putting the kids to bed more frequently alone now. He's up for a promotion in the next month that would make a BIG difference for us so I have to keep reminding him to keep the questionable jokes out of the workplace. He's running faster than ever and is always shopping for new kicks, or running gear. He just turned 29 and I warned him next year he's getting a big party!

4. Breann is the mom. ha! In April I started teaching fitness classes (circuit training and Pilates) and have really enjoyed it! I've been feeling a little burnt out from running after the marathon so I've been running less and doing more high intensity interval training. Don't get me wrong, I'm still running but much much less. I'm itching to move ( no plans for it though), counting the weeks until we're ready to buy a car, and enjoying being a mom. I could really use a long nap.

We drove down to Texas Hill Country to go camping this weekend. It was a little too far of a drive for just one night of camping, but we all needed some space and fresh air. It was amazing how well behaved the kids were, not bugging each other when they had more space to be in. It's also amazing how fascinating rocks, sticks, and bugs really are.

We did a few hikes, and one ended at a watering hole. We brought swimsuits and floaties but man the water was just a little too cold. I can imagine how nice it would feel though on a hot, muggy summer day. We saw raccoon, armadillos, deer, vultures, and lots of bugs.

We have had a lot of rainy days lately so I've been trying to keep things interesting inside.

This little snack took a little preparation of buying things I don't normally buy but totally worth it.

Hazel made a few snack baggies of trail mix to take out on our next walk. It was fun to see her carefully and thoughtfully pick what to put next in her bag. Henry enjoyed eating the leftovers.

Happy Easter from our little family!

It was fun to make little Easter baskets for Hazel and Henry this year. Hazel got a new swimsuit and sunglasses and some eggs filled with fruit snacks! We never buy them so she was pretty excited to see those. Henry's basket had sunglasses and bunny snacks with a few eggs too!

It sure is fun celebrating holidays with kids around. Thanks Grandma Montgomery for helping with Hazel's outfit! It's just too fun to dress these babes up.

More importantly, we're so grateful for our Savior Jesus Christ. We've tried to take advantage to teach Hazel a little about the Savior's love for each of us and about the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. She understands quite a bit but mostly just asks everyone if they're going to die soon.

She really must be contemplating what we tell her because this week she asked Brice "if animals come back and get their bodies again after they die?" This started of course because of the dead duck on the road that stirred a week of questions. woof. And then today in church there was an older man sitting behind us, maybe 60 years old and Hazel turned to me and said, "Mom, he's old- he is going to die soon." I hurried to distract her and quiet her voice and I told her that he wasn't very old yet just older than us and she replied "No, mom- look at his hands. they're old."

^ Don't mind the fact that you're looking at our clean underwear, but I pulled these out of the dryer to fold and Hazel realized they were warm. She almost fell asleep. ^

^ Sometimes we go to Target just to look and play with toys. I don't even bring my wallet in on days like this, but they both love playing with something new for an hour. ^

^ New pants. ^

^ Hazel had her first trip to the dentist. She did great and had NO CAVITIES. She was so excited to get a goody bag and a new electric princess toothbrush. ^

^ It rained all week, but I decided our porch needed some spring color. New flowers.^

^ Not pictured but a trip to the park for doughnuts with friends, the Perot Museum on a busy morning, and a job interview for me. ^

I did it. Well the easiest part of all marathon training. I signed up for a full marathon here in Irving, Texas on April 16th. Brice decided to run the half. 26 miles for me...13 for him.

Brice has also lost two more pounds since Thanksgiving. He is starting to really enjoy running and the benefits.

I'm actually really excited to train and we've figured out the best schedule so our Saturdays aren't totally consumed with hours of running. I ran the Utah Valley in 3:37 which I was happy with but I was on track for a faster finish until I hit the "wall" hard at mile 22. I'm hoping to finish under 3:20 but we will see what happens!

This has nothing to do with running, but Brice was watching the Iowa Hawk-eyes play in the Rose Bowl on Friday (they didn't do very well unfortunately) and Hazel kept yelling

"Go hot guys! Go hot guys!"

We think she meant to say "hawk-eyes" but either way works really :)

I'm in party planning mode for Henry's FIRST birthday! I like to make a big deal about their first birthday because it really is so special. He is still a tiny little guy but I can tell he is understanding everything we say. He is great at helping clean up toys and loves to eat anything. I'm excited to celebrate him and really hope he learns to say "mama" in the next three weeks!

Also, Hazel went to primary today. We can't believe she is a sunbeam already!

1. I came home from grocery shopping and found these two asleep on the floor.

2. This boy sleeping on his tummy.

3. Slowly putting together a gallery wall.

4. Nursing is a peaceful time. And apparently a time to be documented.

5. Leaves.

6. This boy is always happy out on a walk

7. December in Texas means its Autumn.

Today is the first cold day here in Dallas and what can I say other than we are all a bunch of wimps.

Hazel and I both had jackets, tights, and blankets on in the car on the way to church. I haven't taken my socks off all day and the heater is on. My candle is lit and we're making a warm dinner.

It probably isn't all that bad and we better get ready since we're heading to Utah but I'll be the first to admit I've turned into a cold-weather wimp.

But, hey- he humidity is at a low of 29%.

:: hazel ::

1. is eating so much these days- every hour she is asking for a snack. We are out of food two days before I can grocery shop again.

2. is loving eating her lunch sandwiches in cookie cutter shapes. I put some fruit on a kabob stick for a snack and she thought I was the greatest.

3. has started wanting to take showers instead of baths.

4. is learning the days of the week- but Tuesday is always "Taco Tuesday"

5. has woken up so early since daylight savings- I hope she adjusts sooner than later.

:: henry ::

1. is teething again.

2. is standing alone for a few seconds at a time all by himself.

3. he bites my shoulders daily. and pinches me so hard.

4. Up until this point I'd say 80% of nap times/bedtimes I nurse Henry to sleep, but for the last two weeks I've put him in his crib mostly awake and he plays for a minute and then has fallen asleep on his own.

5. Henry just loves personal attention from anyone. If I sing him a song, or do peekaboo he gives the best giggles and smiles.

6. he is starting to get hard at church. He usually is good during sacrament and then naps during Sunday school, but Relief Society is hard. There's too many people to let him crawl around, but sitting on my lap for an hour is out of the picture.

:: breann ::

1. really loving this whole "being a mom" thing right now.

2. wishing i could have $30 and an hour to myself for a manicure and pedicure.

3. I've been reading "Eat & Run" about a vegan marathoner- neither one of those thing is too appealing to me (a little too extreme) but it has really gotten me thinking about what foods we really should limit even more. I'm sure Brice will be thrilled :)

4. getting nervous to race in a few weeks. I've set a time goal but really we will just see how it goes.

5. I need some new clothes- I feel like I'm wearing the same few outfits over and over.

6. I've been loving this "ponderize" addition to our scripture study. Its amazing how quickly I can memorize a verse when I look at it every time I walk into the kitchen.

:: brice ::

1. Is working hard and still really likes his job.

2. Has saved the day at church several times in the last few weeks when it comes to technology issues.

3. played basketball last week and flag football this week.

4. will tell you he's not a runner, but he's still getting up at 6:20 four times a week, follows a training plan, prepares his Gatorade and water bottles the night before, and I constantly catch him looking at running gear online,

5. Told me he needs a project so I'm trying to figure out a few things he can maybe make. I just want to be out of an apartment before we have more furniture- I'm starting to feel claustrophobic.

6. needs a haircut but every time I bring it up he says he's not "mentally prepared"- whatever that means ;)

:: hazel ::

1. got to have a cupcake and ice cream yesterday.

2. She told us at 6:30 last night "She was so ready to go to bed."

3. Is pretty excited to be Copper (from Fox and The Hound) for Halloween. We did our best to DIY their costumes.

4. Hasn't had an accident in her bed at night in weeks! I am SO glad we stuck wit hit and so glad shes got it down.

5. Hazel loves to learn. She's figuring out letter sounds, what the numbers look like, loves playing memory, and has it the "Why" asking all the time stage.

6. Loves having "tot school" and I really think we need to keep doing it.

7. We lost her little special puppy dog and she's been pretty disheartened about it.
8. Has been practicing "trick-or-treat" and "woof-woof" all week. She is going to love this weekend!

:: henry ::

1. I don't even know where to start with this kid- he makes me so happy. He is just so happy and easy going ALL THE TIME.

2. loves playing in the dishwasher, unplugging the vacuum, and swinging in the park swings.

3. ate his first clump of dirt this week- he loved it :)

4. I put him in the bath daily during the day because he just loves it but he started pooping in it. One morning I noticed he was grunting so i put him on the potty and he went twice obviously and Hazel celebrated him ALL DAY.

5. He is going to be the cutest Todd (the fox) ever. Brice sewed his little heart out on Sunday.

6. He has found his voice and is squealing, giggling, chatty, blowing raspberries, and grunting. I just love the interaction.
7. has had a runny nose for over a week so he just hates when i try and wipe it or even worse-suction it!

We are welcoming fall here in Dallas with open arms!

The weather is cooling down (like a high of only 80*) and there definitely is a crispness in the air. We've been sleeping with the windows open, decorating the apartment with little pumpkins, and talking about Hazels' birthday and possible Halloween costumes.

The best place in Dallas to get a taste of fall early on is the Arboretum.

I know I blogged about it last year but it was just as fun today!

1. Our sweet friend Liz, braided Hazel's hair so cute while she was babysitting.

2. Is constantly telling me "Mom, that is a great idea!"

3. Was kind of a stinker during family pictures last week- she was much more interested in watching the people fish than posing on the dock. I totally get it.

4. Her birthday is on Monday and I'm bummed but I don't think were having a party this year.

5. Loves asking about letter sounds. Whenever were on a walk we pick a letter and try and think of all the words that start with that letter/sound. She's really starting to figure out letter sounds.

6. Obsessed with the Room on the Broom book.

:: henry ::

1. I snapped this on my phone at FHE at the park. His hair looks so red.

2. Poor guy has been fighting something off because he's had a 103* fever for two days straight. I finally took him in and his throat, ears, and mouth swab all came back clear so the doctor jsut told us to wait it out.

3. He is finally sleeping through the night again, although it may be from all the doses of medicine.

4. His second top tooth finally cut through so now he really has FOUR teeth!

5. He is just the best snuggle bug and we just love him.
